Troubleshooting a Simplehuman Soap Dispenser

Troubleshooting a Simplehuman Soap Dispenser

Simplehuman soap dispensers use built-in sensors to distribute soap automatically when your hand is placed beneath the unit. This eliminates the need to touch the dispenser, avoiding germ contact. Many frequent problems with these dispensers can be handled quickly using basic troubleshooting techniques.

The Unit Doesn't Light Up

A pair of "+" and "-" buttons are seen in Simplehuman soap dispensers sold after 2010. To increase or decrease the amount of soap released, press the + or – buttons. Pressing these buttons should turn on the unit's light. If it doesn't, your battery is likely dead. Begin by ensuring the batteries are aligned correctly. If this doesn't work, replace the batteries. Remove the batteries and clean the contacts on the battery dispenser with steel wool. If the contacts are too corroded to fix, get a new battery case cover.

Flashing Light

If the light on your soap dispenser flashes when you click the buttons but the pump motor doesn't operate, your sensor may be broken. Dry the sensor after wiping it with a moist towel. If this doesn't work, move the dispenser to another section of the room to see if the illumination affects the sensor. This step isn't applicable to pre-2010 units.

Signaling with a Red Light

If the sensor light goes red or flashes red while dispensing, the battery may be low. Replace the batteries or clean the contacts with steel wool. If your battery case cover is badly rusted, get a new one. This light is blue on pre-2010 models.

Dispensing Issues

A sensor fault may be causing a Simplehuman soap dispenser to self-release soap. Check to see whether anything under the dispenser, such as a shelf, is activating the sensor. To adjust the amount of soap delivered per application, use the "+" and "-" buttons. Pre-2010 models include a dial to adjust the amount of soap, as they lack buttons. If altering these settings doesn't work, try wiping or flicking the valve to clear any obstructions. If you're using a thick soap, raise the dial or use the "+" button so the machine can dispense enough soap with each application.
